Our loving husband and father, Ed, was born on May 28,1925 in Corvallis, Oregon to Helen E. Kimball and Arnold S. Burrier, the oldest of two children, and passed on August 20, 2023 in Palm Desert, California at the age of 98. He married his lifelong partner, Martha, on April 15,1950. At the time of his death they were married 73 years. They lived in Corvallis, Oregon until 2001 when they moved to Palm Desert, California. In his early years he played golf at Corvallis High School where the team won the 1942 State Championship. He played golf for Oregon State, where he qualified for the 1946 NCAA golf tournament, earning his treasured collegiate athletic letter and many trophies. His professional career in Corvallis started as a volunteer at the Corvallis Fire Department, later he was an ambulance driver and then an EMT. He steadily moved up the ranks and retired in 1980 as a Captain at Station 2. His son Byron was born on June 19, 1955, daughters Michelle on June 9, 1957 and Malinda on September 21, 1959. He was a wonderful Dad, Papa, and Daddy spending many years from 1967 to 1983 serving as a Troop leader in the local Boy Scouts of America. He participated in may trips with the scouts, including taking a group on a wilderness canoe trip to northern Minnesota and Canada in 1970, climbing Oregon's Middle Sister mountain in 1971 and leading a troop to the National Jamboree in 1973 in Idaho. His daughters also attended many of those trips with the troop. He was instrumental in securing the land that the Troop 3 cabin still sits on today in Corvallis Oregon. He set up a newspaper recycling program in the early 1970s in which funds were secured to support the troop and build the cabin, even the girls helped out with this endeavor. The main meeting hall at the cabin was named "Burrier Hall" after Ed in the summer of 2006. One of his dreams was to go on a trip to Scotland and play golf on their famous courses with Byron. They made the trip in 1996 and the photo of Ed standing on the famous Swilcan Bridge on the Old Course in St. Andrews is proudly hanging on his wall. When Ed and Martha moved to the desert in 2001 they moved to Sun City Palm Desert and played as much golf as they could. They joined and volunteered for many years with many of the clubs that involved golf. Ed enjoyed playing the putting course with the men's putters and playing with Martha in the couple's putters. He played with the men's club and the men's 9-hole clubs. They enjoyed serving as Marshalls during the Bob Hope Classic golf tournament for over a decade. He is survived by his wife Martha, son Byron Burrier (Cindy), daughters Michelle Burrier (Alan) and Malinda Burrier Wood (Thomas). Granddaughters Mandy Brentano (Archie), Elizabeth Merritt and grandson Thomas Wood II. Great grandchildren Harmony and Felicity Merritt, Malory, Archer and Samuel Brentano. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Henrichs, Fairbanks, Alaska, her daughter Susan Henrichs and son Allan Henrichs.
